Los investigadores desarrollaron un electrocatalizador novel de heterounión de óxido de cobre/cobre de rutenio regulado por cloruro (Cu$_{x}$O-Cl/RuCu). Este catalizador reduce significativamente la energía necesaria para descomponer el carbonato de litio, mejorando el rendimiento de las baterías de litio-dióxido de carbono (Li-CO$_{2}$).
