Abstract:
The peroneal tendons, composed of the peroneus longus and peroneus brevis tendons, play a critical role in foot biomechanics and ankle stability. Peroneal tendon abnormalities are commonly associated with chronic ankle instability and are major causes of lateral ankle pain. Early recognition and diagnosis of peroneal injuries can facilitate prompt treatment and management, leading to better patient outcomes and the prevention of long-term disabilities. Traditional ankle evaluation relies on 2D MR imaging sequences, which have limitations in the form of interslice gaps, partial volume effects, and orientation-dependent artifacts.
