    Una sola sesión de estimulación transcraneal de corriente alterna (tACS) de frecuencia alfa redujo modestamente la ansiedad en adultos sanos. Esta técnica de neuromodulación es prometedora para atenuar la reactividad de la ansiedad inducida por el estrés.

    Sus antecedentes:

    • La reactividad de la ansiedad al estrés agudo es un factor de vulnerabilidad clave en diversas condiciones de salud mental.
    • Es crucial investigar técnicas de estimulación cerebral no invasivas como la tACS para comprender y manejar la ansiedad.

    Objetivo del estudio:

    • Determinar si una sola sesión de estimulación transcraneal de corriente alterna (tACS) de frecuencia alfa puede reducir la ansiedad estatal provocada por el estrés agudo en adultos sanos.
    • Evaluar el impacto de la tACS en la reactividad de la ansiedad dirigiéndose a la red de control frontoparietal.

    Principales métodos:

    • Un estudio aleatorizado, ciego y controlado con placebo en 42 adultos sanos (edad media 58,9 años).
    • Los participantes se sometieron a una tarea de estrés agudo que implicaba un paradigma de círculos en movimiento con estímulos aversivos antes y después de la tACS activa o simulada.
    • La estimulación activa utilizó tACS alfa de 10 Hz (2,0 mA) administrada en ubicaciones específicas del cuero cabelludo (F3, P3, Cz, T7).

    Principales resultados:

    • La ansiedad estatal (STAI-S) disminuyó significativamente después de la tACS activa, pero aumentó ligeramente después de la estimulación simulada.
    • No se observaron cambios significativos en la evaluación del estrés percibido (SAAS) ni en la potencia alfa en estado de reposo.
    • La potencia alfa frontoizquierda relacionada con la tarea mostró tendencias a mayores aumentos después de la tACS activa en comparación con la simulación.

    Conclusiones:

    • Una sola sesión de tACS alfa demostró una reducción modesta pero selectiva de la ansiedad estatal provocada por el estrés.
    • La neuromodulación oscilatoria a través de la tACS alfa presenta un enfoque escalable para mitigar la reactividad de la ansiedad.
