Sus antecedentes:

  • Los electrolitos convencionales de baterías de iones de litio enfrentan inestabilidad operativa a temperaturas criogénicas debido a la heterogeneidad de la estructura de solvatación.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Introducir un paradigma de ingeniería de gradiente de polaridad (PGE) para abordar la disparidad de polaridad del disolvente en los electrolitos.
  • Resolver sistemáticamente la heterogeneidad a escala atómica a través de la modulación electrónica.
  • Permitir la operación estable de baterías de iones de litio en condiciones criogénicas extremas.

Principales métodos:

  • Sustitución de carbono por azufre en esqueletos de carbonato para reducir la heterogeneidad dieléctrica.
  • Modulación electrónica a escala atómica para lograr una coordinación equilibrada de Li+.
  • Caracterización de las propiedades del electrolito, incluida la heterogeneidad dieléctrica, la energía de activación para la desolvatación y la conductividad iónica a bajas temperaturas.

Principales resultados:

  • Se logró una reducción del 83% en la heterogeneidad dieléctrica al reemplazar el carbono por azufre en los electrolitos (Δε = 17.1).
  • La estructura de solvatación homogeneizada aceleró la cinética de desolvatación (energía de activación de 34.97 kJ·mol⁻¹) y promovió la formación de intercara rica en LiF.
  • Los electrolitos optimizados permitieron la operación en estado líquido hasta -110 °C, con una conductividad de 1 mS·cm⁻¹ a -80 °C, y el ciclado estable de celdas de bolsa LiCoO₂/Li a -20 °C (retención del 81% durante 400 ciclos).

Conclusiones:

  • El paradigma de ingeniería de gradiente de polaridad (PGE) homogeneiza eficazmente las estructuras de solvatación en los electrolitos.
  • Esto conduce a una estabilidad termodinámica intrínsecamente acoplada y a una cinética interfacial acelerada para el almacenamiento de energía en condiciones extremas.
  • El estudio proporciona un marco de diseño universal y un plano a escala atómica para el desarrollo de baterías criogénicas de alto rendimiento.
