  • Evaluar la alfabetización en salud y la numeracia en pacientes de cirugía endocrina.
  • Evaluar la comprensión del paciente de los informes de citopatología de la aspiración con aguja fina (AAF) de tiroides.
  • Identificar oportunidades para mejorar el diseño del informe de citopatología y la comprensión del paciente.

Principales métodos:

  • Estudio prospectivo en una clínica de cirugía endocrina.
  • Encuestas pre y post-procedimiento para evaluar la comprensión de los informes de citopatología de AAF de tiroides.
  • Las encuestas incluyeron datos demográficos, comprensión de la terminología de patología y evaluaciones de alfabetización en salud y numeracia.

Principales resultados:

  • La mayoría de los pacientes tenían una alta alfabetización en salud (73%) pero una numeracia limitada (92%).
  • Una mayor numeracia se correlacionó con una mejor comprensión del informe de citopatología (P=0.025).
  • Los pacientes deseaban explicaciones personalizadas, ayudas visuales y glosarios para los informes.

Conclusiones:

  • Los pacientes de cirugía endocrina demuestran una brecha significativa en las habilidades de numeracia.
  • La numeracia, no la exposición previa, está relacionada con una mejor comprensión del informe de citopatología.
  • Se recomiendan informes personalizados con mejoras visuales para mejorar la comprensión del paciente.
