Resumen

Este estudio encontró que tanto los microplásticos de polipropileno (PP) como los de ácido poliláctico (PLA) dañan al anfípodo Gammarus aequicauda. La exposición crónica afecta negativamente el crecimiento, la reproducción y la supervivencia, lo que pone de relieve los riesgos ecológicos.

Sus antecedentes:

  • Los microplásticos (MPs) son contaminantes ambientales omnipresentes.; Los polímeros de origen fósil (por ejemplo, polipropileno, PP) y los bioplásticos (por ejemplo, ácido poliláctico, PLA) son fuentes comunes de MP.; Es crucial comprender los efectos ecotoxicológicos de los diferentes tipos de MP.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Comparar los efectos tóxicos de los microplásticos de PP y PLA en el anfípodo marino Gammarus aequicauda.; Evaluar los impactos en la toxicidad aguda, el crecimiento, la reproducción y la expresión de genes de estrés.; Evaluar el riesgo ecológico que suponen los microplásticos comerciales.

Principales métodos:

  • Se realizaron pruebas de toxicidad aguda (CL50 de 96 h) para MPs de PP y PLA.; La exposición crónica subclínica (60 días) evaluó el crecimiento y la reproducción.; Se realizó un análisis de la expresión génica (RT-qPCR) de siete genes relacionados con el estrés.

Principales resultados:

  • El polipropileno (PP) mostró una mayor toxicidad aguda (CL50 = 34,71 mg/L) que el ácido poliláctico (PLA) (CL50 > 100 mg/L).; La exposición crónica a PP y PLA redujo el crecimiento y prolongó el desarrollo embrionario.; La exposición a PP provocó el deterioro reproductivo más significativo y redujo las tasas de supervivencia.

Conclusiones:

  • Los microplásticos de PP y PLA de origen comercial inducen estrés fisiológico y reproductivo en Gammarus aequicauda.; Ambos tipos de MP provocan respuestas de estrés complejas y dependientes del tiempo a nivel de expresión génica.; Los hallazgos subrayan los riesgos ecológicos potenciales de la contaminación por microplásticos tanto de fuentes de base fósil como de bioplásticos.
