Sus antecedentes:

  • El sueño es vital para la función cognitiva, la regulación emocional y la salud general.; La genómica y la neuroimagen revelan vínculos entre la genética, el sueño y la estructura cerebral.; Este estudio explora la influencia genética en la duración del sueño y su impacto en los cambios cerebrales.

Objetivo del estudio:

  • Investigar la asociación entre la predisposición genética a la duración del sueño (PGI del sueño) y los cambios cerebrales longitudinales.; Examinar cómo varía esta asociación en diferentes grupos de edad (jóvenes, mediana edad, ancianos).

Principales métodos:

  • Se utilizaron datos longitudinales de los estudios RANN y CR (n=94).; Se evaluaron medidas cerebrales que incluyen el grosor cortical, el volumen de la sustancia gris/blanca y el volumen de las hiperintensidades de la sustancia blanca (WMH).; Se emplearon Ecuaciones de Estimación Generalizadas para el análisis estadístico, incluyendo estratificaciones por grupos de edad.

Principales resultados:

  • Un PGI del sueño más alto se asoció con un mayor volumen de WMH temporal a lo largo del tiempo en todas las edades.; La edad moderó significativamente la relación entre el PGI del sueño y los cambios longitudinales en el volumen del hipocampo, el volumen de la sustancia blanca cortical y el volumen de WMH total/parietal.; El efecto protector de la predisposición genética a dormir más fue más pronunciado en adultos más jóvenes.

Conclusiones:

  • Los factores genéticos que influyen en la duración del sueño se asocian con cambios cerebrales en adultos sanos.; Una predisposición genética a una mayor duración del sueño se correlaciona con trayectorias de disminución cerebral reducidas.; Los hallazgos resaltan la importancia de la duración del sueño para la salud cerebral y sugieren el potencial de intervenciones personalizadas.
