Abstract:
Insomnia, a widespread disorder, impacts health and well-being, yet societal factors shape its diagnosis and treatment. Cultural perceptions, economic pressures, gender biases, racial disparities, and technology influence how individuals perceive their sleep and seek care. Cultural attitudes affect symptom recognition. Economic factors like shift work and job insecurity contribute to disparities. Gender differences lead to clinical biases, with women overprescribed sedatives and men underdiagnosed. Racial disparities limit access to effective therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia, resulting in medication overuse. Media and pharmaceutical industries promote medication over behavioral treatments. Technology presents both challenges and opportunities in insomnia management.

Sedatives and Hypnotics Drugs: Miscellaneous Agents
Melatonin congeners like ramelteon (Rozerem) and tasimelteon (Hetlioz) selectively bind to melatonin receptors (MT1 and MT2) and thus mimic the actions of melatonin, a hormone that regulates sleep-wake cycles. Tasimelteon is primarily used for non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder, common in blind patients. They are also used to treat conditions like insomnia...
