- Poliovirus receptor (PVR) is an emerging therapeutic target for cancer treatment.; Its prognostic and predictive value in renal and bladder cancers is largely unexplored.; PVR is broadly expressed across various malignancies.
Objetivo del estudio:
- To investigate the prognostic and predictive value of PVR expression in renal and bladder cancers.; To analyze both total PVR and its secreted isoform in tumor tissue and serum.; To correlate PVR expression with clinical outcomes and tumor characteristics.
Principales métodos:
- Quantitative immunohistochemical analysis of PVR in tumor tissues (bladder, renal cell carcinoma - clear cell and papillary subtypes).; Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for total circulating PVR in matched serum samples.; Development of an isoform-specific assay for secreted PVR.
Principales resultados:
- Elevated serum PVR in bladder and renal cancer patients, but no correlation with tissue PVR.; In bladder cancer, tissue PVR correlated with tumor grade and lymphovascular invasion.; In renal cancer, PVR expression was subtype-dependent; high PVR linked to reduced survival and metastasis in clear cell carcinoma.
Conclusiones:
- PVR tissue expression, particularly in clear cell renal cell carcinoma, may serve as a prognostic marker.; High PVR expression is associated with metastatic progression in clear cell renal cell carcinoma.; PVR warrants further investigation as a biomarker and therapeutic target in renal cancers.
