Abstract:
Mounting evidence suggests that the nucleus is a load-bearing element in the intracellular, cytoskeletal force balance. Cytoskeletal forces are transmitted to the nucleus by the LINC complex which molecularly couples the nucleus to the cytoskeleton. In this issue, Pathak and coworkers show that disrupting the LINC complex inhibits epithelial collective migration. Their findings highlight the nucleus as a mechanically integrated organelle essential for motility.
