The Tongue and Taste Buds

The surface of the tongue is covered with various small bumps called papillae, which either distribute what has been ingested (filiform papillae) or contain the sensory taste (or gustatory) receptor cells (fungiform, circumvallate, and foliate papillae).     El concepto tradicional de los cuatro sabores primarios influye en la percepción gustativa animal y en las teorías de integración neural. Los estudios comparativos de sabor revelan parámetros universales de receptores, desafiando las hipótesis existentes y ofreciendo nuevas perspectivas ecológicas.

    Área de la Ciencia:

    • La neurociencia sensorial es la neurociencia sensorial.
    • Biología comparada y biología comparada.
    • La quimio-sensación es la sensación química.

    Sus antecedentes:

    • El concepto de cuatro sabores primarios (dulce, agrio, salado, amargo) ha dado forma durante mucho tiempo a la comprensión del gusto animal.
