タモキシフェンは,エストロゲン受容体陽性乳がんの発生率を著しく低下させますが,子宮内膜がんや静脈性血栓栓症の発生率を増加させます. ER陰性乳がんの予防とタモキシフェンの副作用を軽減するためにさらなる研究が必要です.
