The somatosensory system relays sensory information from the skin, mucous membranes, limbs, and joints. Somatosensation is more familiarly known as the sense of touch. A typical somatosensory pathway includes three types of long neurons: primary, secondary, and tertiary. Primary neurons have cell bodies located near the spinal cord in groups of neurons called dorsal root ganglia. The sensory neurons of ganglia innervate designated areas of skin called dermatomes.

研究 の 目的:

  • 腕の切断後の 大人の皮質の再編成を調査する
  • 手と唇の動きの脳活動パターンを 切断前と切断後の長期間に比べるため

主な方法:

  • 長距離神経イメージング (fMRIまたは類似) が使用されました.
  • 3人の成人は 腕の切断前と5年後にスキャンされました
  • 無傷の手/幻の手と唇の動きを測った.

主要な成果:

  • 手と唇の両方の皮質表現は,主感覚運動領域で安定したままでした.
  • アクティビティの変化を直接定量化すると,有意な大規模な皮質の再編成は認められませんでした.
  • 幻肢と唇の動きに関連した脳活動パターンは 時間の経過とともに一貫していました

結論:

  • 大人の脳は 腕の切断のような大きな変化にもかかわらず 皮質の表現において 驚くべき安定性を発揮します
  • 大規模な皮質の再編成は 大人の腕切断の必然的な結果ではありません
  • 感覚運動皮質のマップは 解剖後長期にわたって 回復力と安定性を示しています
