De novo myogenesis, or the formation of muscle fibers, begins during the early embryonic stages. The skeletal muscle is formed from somites– blocks of embryonic cell layers. The somites are further divided into dermatomes, myotomes, sclerotomes, and syndetomes. Among these, the myotomes give rise to muscle fibers.

フォリスタチン(FST)の過剰発現は、ミオスタチン(MSTN)の欠失よりも筋管の成長を促進する。血清組成などの培養条件は、筋研究におけるMSTNシグナル伝達と実験結果に影響を与える。
