Abstract:
Machine vision systems possess the abilities of converting captured image signals into digital signals and further processing these signals to extract features, replacing human eyes for measurement and judgment. Optoelectronic memristors with the functionalities of photodetection, memory, and processing are a promising candidate used in a machine vision system. However, the existing optoelectronic memristors are limited by inevitable electrical signal input, complex fabrication processes, inhomogeneous integration of different materials, and high cost. In this work, we designed and fabricated a single organic mixed ionic-electronic conductor (OMIEC)-based all-optical-controlled synaptic device (AOCSD), which can achieve three functionalities of reading, light-writing, and light-erasing using three optical-controlled modules, separately. During device operation, there is no electrical input, which reduces the complexity of the programming. Furthermore, this OMIEC-based AOCSD can be used to emulate various visual synaptic plasticity behaviors in an all-optical-controlled manner, making it possible to realize passive machine vision hardware near the edge.

Schottky Barriers
Schottky barriers arise when a metal with a work function (Φm) contacts a semiconductor with a different work function (Φs). Initially, electrons transfer until the Fermi levels of the metal and semiconductor align at equilibrium. For instance, if Φm > Φs, the semiconductor Fermi level is higher than the metal's before contact. The...

MOSFET: Enhancement Mode
In their basic form, enhancement-mode MOSFETs are typically non-conductive when the gate-source voltage (Vgs) is zero. This default 'off' state means no...
Chemical Synapses
Because chemical synapses depend on the release of neurotransmitter molecules from synaptic vesicles to pass on their signal, there is an approximately one millisecond delay between when the axon potential reaches the presynaptic terminal and when the neurotransmitter leads to opening of postsynaptic ion channels. Additionally, this signaling is...

Electrical Synapses
Gap junctions allow the current to pass directly from one cell to the next. In contrast, in the chemical synapse, the neurotransmitters carry the information through the synaptic cleft from one neuron to the next. They consist of two...
