Abstract:
Implication Statement This study explores the integration of an augmented Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) tool with curated scientific sources to enhance the learning of pulmonary function test (PFT) interpretation in pre-clerkship medical education. Our findings suggest that this approach offers notable improvements in accuracy, reliability, and the quality of explanations compared to existing tools, such as Out-of-Box GPT and USMLE Q-Banks.

Pulmonary Function Tests
Pulmonary Function Tests are crucial diagnostic tools for assessing respiratory function, particularly in patients with chronic respiratory disorders. They comprehensively evaluate lung volumes, ventilatory function, breathing mechanics, diffusion, and gas exchange. These tests help diagnose pulmonary diseases and play a significant role in monitoring disease progression, evaluating disability, and assessing response to therapy.
