Summary

A large splenic hemangiosarcoma case in a 40-year-old man presented with consumptive coagulopathy. Massive calcification on imaging suggests considering hemangiosarcoma for splenic tumors.

Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Radiology
  • Hematology

Background:

  • Splenic hemangiosarcoma is a rare malignancy.
  • Consumptive coagulopathy can be associated with certain tumors.

Observation:

  • A 40-year-old male presented with a large splenic tumor.
  • Computed tomography revealed radial calcification.
  • Magnetic resonance imaging showed T2 shortening due to calcification and fibrosis.

Findings:

  • The splenic tumor exhibited extensive calcification.
  • The patient experienced consumptive coagulopathy.
  • Imaging findings correlated with calcification and fibrosis.

Implications:

  • Splenic hemangiosarcoma should be considered in cases of large splenic tumors with significant calcification.

Related Experiment Videos
