[Magnesium sulfate is recommended against eclampsia]
1Kvinnokliniken, Södersjukhuset, Stockholm.
Abstract:
As eclampsia is a life-threatening condition associated with both maternal and fetal complications, strict regimens and protocols are warranted at every delivery unit. Available evidence is overwhelmingly in favour of magnesium sulphate treatment in cases of eclampsia, a regimen which may also be beneficial to the fetus because of its protective effect against cerebral palsy. However, there is still no consensus regarding magnesium sulphate prophylaxis in cases of severe preeclampsia.
