Summary

This study aimed to create a numerical tool for evaluating bedside blood glucose testing programs. The researchers used a document from the National Committee for Clinical Laboratory Standards (NCCLS) as a foundation. They identified 69 criteria from this document and used a modified Delphi technique to assign weights to each. This method involved two rounds of expert input to determine the relative importance of each criterion. The final weighted system was then used to assess the quality of bedside glucose testing at 14 hospitals in Boston. The results showed that the system could provide a consistent and objective way to measure program quality. The study suggests that this approach may improve the accuracy of quality assessments in healthcare settings.
