Summary

Hypothyroidism in pregnancy is more common than previously thought, with uncomplicated deliveries and healthy infants. This study observed four such pregnancies, finding positive outcomes and fewer congenital defects than expected.

Observation:

  • Four pregnancies in women with hypothyroidism were studied.
  • These cases were part of a larger group of twenty pregnancies treated for thyroid disease.

Findings:

  • All infants were born in good condition.
  • Deliveries and the puerperal period were uncomplicated.
  • Congenital defects in infants were less frequent than anticipated.

Implications:

  • Hypothyroidism may coexist with pregnancy more frequently than previously recognized.
  • Effective management of hypothyroidism during pregnancy leads to favorable outcomes.
