First oviduct transplants

The first four cases of oviduct transplantation are described. In the first case, it consisted in the substitution of an oviduct that could not be recanalized after previous sterilization; two further patients had undergone salpingectomy for ectopic pregnancy, and one had been salpingectiomized for salpingitis. Donor oviducts preserved in liquid nitrogen at--196 degrees C were used as grafts. Rejection was prevented by countersensitization according to Theurer, also a first instance of the use of this method to be recorded in the literature.
