The regulation of hospitals in Maine: a viewpoint
Abstract:
In 1984, the Maine legislative enacted a law to contain the state's rising cost of hospitalization. Certain observations were made and goals set in the proposal for this legislation. The principal goals were to contain rising costs, assure the survival of small hospitals serving rural communities, and establish greater equity among payers. This report focuses on those goals and objectives. It comments on their effectiveness and offers alternative solutions where appropriate.
