Comparison of two methods of preparation for hospitalization
Abstract:
This study compared the effects of two methods of preparation for hospitalization on the anxiety levels, hospital-related fears, and recall of 40 healthy fourth grade students. One method involved the reading of a book designed to elicit discussion of thoughts and feelings accompanying hospitalization. The second method involved a slide presentation, photographs, and demonstration designed to inform children of the hospitalization experience. Multifactor analyses of variance revealed no statistically significant differences among the groups.
