Child life specialists: report of an observational study

An observational technique was used to explore the role of child life specialists as members of the pediatric health care team. Subjects included five child life specialists affiliated with four hospital settings in the Northeastern United States. Content analysis revealed a similar pattern of activity for child life professionals across settings. The amount of time child life specialists spent interacting with patients, family members, and hospital staff is also reported.
