The Appropriate Use of Computers and Telecommunications in Medicine

Although health care financial and administrative functions have been aided by computers for some time now, clinical practice has remained relatively unaffected. The author examines why clinicians have not made wide use of information systems, discusses technologic developments expected in the near future, and describes how medical informatics can have a positive effect on clinical practice.
