Acne Vulgaris
1MACC Fund Research Center, 8701 Watertown Plank Road, Milwaukee, WI 53226, USA.
Abstract:
Adolescent acne appears with the onset of puberty and occurs in at least 85% of adolescents. Although many patients have only mild forms, acne that is left untreated can leave emotional and physical scars that last a lifetime. An understanding of the adolescent patient's psychological vulnerability and patient education maximize the effectiveness of any treatment program. The author reviews the causes and treatments of acne vulgaris, and evaluates the efficacy and appropriateness of the most widely used topical and oral medications.
