Many patients in a Veterans Affairs health system did not meet cholesterol goals, even when treated with statins. This highlights a need for improved lipid management programs to achieve National Cholesterol Education Program (NCEP) targets.

  • Achieving low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol goals is crucial for patients, especially those with existing coronary heart disease (CHD) or multiple risk factors.
  • Previous treatment with pravastatin in a Veterans Affairs (VA) health system did not consistently result in patients meeting their NCEP-defined LDL cholesterol goals.
