Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate whether diuresis-induced enhancement of bladder function in rats could prevent contractile dysfunctions associated with partial bladder outlet obstruction.

Main Methods:

  • Thirty-two rats were divided into four groups, with two groups receiving 5% sucrose solution (inducing diuresis) and two groups receiving regular water.
  • After three weeks, partial bladder outlet obstructions were surgically created in one sucrose-fed group and one water-fed group.
  • Bladder strips from all rats were harvested and subjected to contractile studies in an isolated muscle bath following four weeks of obstruction.
