Abstract:
Gene therapy of vascular diseases represents a new perspective field in the modern biomedical science. It is based on the employment of genetic constructions for medical treatment. The paper reviews major directions in gene therapy of vascular diseases: inhibition of proliferative processes in the vascular wall; administration into the elements of vascular wall of genes responsible for nitric oxide synthesis; normalisation of blood pressure regulatory system; synthesis of thromboembolic factors and anticoagulants; gene therapy of atherosclerosis; revascularisation of ischaemic myocardium and inhibition of tumor vascularisation.

Treatment for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension: Endothelin Receptor Antagonists
ETs are synthesized through a complex sequence of enzymatic steps, primarily involving an enzyme referred to as endothelin-converting enzyme (ECE). Of...
Treatment for Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension: Prostacyclin Receptor Agonists
These agonists bind to the IPR receptor situated on the plasma membrane of the pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells. This binding triggers a cascade of reactions known as the GS-AC-cAMP-PKA pathway. This pathway results in the relaxation of smooth muscle...
