An analysis of 145 case histories of high-grade thyroid cancer has shown that 61 (31%) patients were reoperated on for recurrence several months to 25 years after primary surgery. Among indications for reoperative thyroid surgery were regional or implantation metastases and relapse. Errors involved in primary intervention caused most of repeat operations.
