Summary

This study introduces a new technique called the sun flap closure to improve the results of skin-sparing mastectomy combined with expander/implant reconstruction. Traditional methods have had challenges in achieving consistent and pleasing outcomes when using expanders. The authors modified an existing flap closure technique to better accommodate implant placement while preserving skin. Their findings suggest that this modification may lead to better cosmetic results and higher patient satisfaction. The sun flap closure could offer a valuable alternative in reconstructive surgery, though further validation is needed.
