Area of Science:

  • Medicinal Chemistry
  • Microbiology
  • Pharmacology

Background:

  • Helicobacter pylori is a significant pathogen associated with various gastrointestinal diseases.
  • Existing antibiotic treatments for H. pylori can be limited by resistance and side effects.
  • Development of novel antibiotics with preserved or enhanced efficacy is crucial.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To synthesize novel beta-lactam antibiotic analogues.
  • To evaluate the in vitro antibacterial activity of these new compounds against Helicobacter pylori.
  • To compare the efficacy of the synthesized analogues with established antibiotics.

Main Methods:

  • Acylation of amoxycillin and cephalexin using specific acids and isocyanate.
  • Synthesis of beta-lactam antibiotic analogues (compounds X, XIII-XV).

Related Experiment Videos

  • In vitro testing of antibacterial activity against Helicobacter pylori.
  • Main Results:

    • Successful synthesis of four new beta-lactam antibiotic analogues.
    • The synthesized analogues demonstrated antibacterial activity against H. pylori.
    • The activity of the new analogues was comparable to amoxycillin, Augmentin, erythromycin, and ciprofloxacin.

    Conclusions:

    • The novel beta-lactam analogues exhibit promising antibacterial activity against H. pylori.
    • These analogues represent potential alternatives or additions to current H. pylori treatment regimens.
    • Further research may explore their therapeutic potential and mechanisms of action.
