Area of Science:

  • Radiology
  • Gastroenterology

Background:

  • Mesenteric panniculitis (MP) is a rare inflammatory condition affecting the mesentery.
  • Limited data exists on sonographic (US) and color Doppler findings in MP.

Observation:

  • Reviewed clinical data and US/Doppler results of three MP cases.
  • US identified lesions as poorly marginated echogenic masses with hypoechoic areas.
  • Color Doppler US visualized nondeviated mesenteric vessels within the mass.

Findings:

  • US is a useful initial diagnostic tool for MP, requiring careful interpretation.
  • Color Doppler US effectively demonstrates fine mesenteric vessels.
  • Color Doppler US facilitates safe, image-guided needle biopsies in MP.

Implications:

Related Experiment Videos
