Summary

Researchers investigated bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) by solubilizing the infectious prion protein (PrPSc). Partial recovery of infectivity was achieved after renaturation, suggesting PrPSc and nucleic acids are not solely responsible for infectious particle formation.
