  • Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a major cause of acute viral hepatitis in developing nations.

  • To evaluate the genetic variability of HEV strains from Indian outbreaks and sporadic cases.
  • To assess the utility of ORF1 and ORF2 gene segments for HEV molecular epidemiology.
