Summary

Delayed keratitis, a rare complication, can occur after laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) surgery. Prompt surgical intervention, including flap lifting and irrigation, can effectively treat this condition and restore vision.

Background:

  • Laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is a common refractive surgery procedure.
  • While generally safe, LASIK can have rare complications.
  • Delayed post-operative infections require prompt diagnosis and management.

Observation:

  • Two cases of delayed keratitis following LASIK are presented.
  • The first case involved a peripheral corneal infiltrate three months post-LASIK enhancement.
  • The second case presented with decreased vision and sublamellar infiltrate one month after primary LASIK.

Findings:

  • Both patients were successfully treated with surgical intervention, including flap lifting and interface irrigation with antibiotics.
  • Cultures in the second case identified Staphylococcus epidermidis.
