Preoperative diagnosis of intestinal intussusception in pregnancy. A case report

Background:
Intestinal intussusception is a rare event during pregnancy. The diagnosis of intestinal obstruction from any cause in pregnancy is made more difficult by the common overlapping complaints of nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, which may persist during the second trimester.
Case:
Intestinal obstruction occurred at 17 weeks' gestation. A preoperative diagnosis of intussusception was made by ultrasound by demonstrating multiple ecodense and ecolucent rings in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen.
Conclusion:
Ultrasonography may support the diagnosis of intussusception in pregnant women with intestinal obstruction.
