[The second cycle in nursing. A project of historical continuity]

The year 2000 broke out with a controversial and accelerated debate about a Licentiate for Nursing, a project which has been developing since the beginning of the nineties as a result of a series of demands and projects presented earlier on. In this article, Marta Durán, a well-known prestigious professional who is playing an important, leading role in this whole process, presents the academic and disciplinary benchmarks which, in her opinion and based on a rigorous, well-founded position, should be those which enable us to select a model that covers the expectations opened up by this project. The issue is dealt with from the following perspectives: the context of human and social development and the academic proposal for the development of nursing.
