Role-Play Verbal De-Escalation Simulation Training for Nursing Students
Abstract:
Nurses need therapeutic communication skills to de-escalate stressful situations. This qualitative study aimed to measure the effectiveness of role-play verbal de-escalation training simulations for Associate of Science degree nursing students. A three-step training process was implemented to teach verbal de-escalation techniques. Simulations were conducted using simulation patients rather than high-fidelity mannequins. Survey and debriefing data were evaluated using qualitative analysis. Student participants showed enhanced critical thinking and clinical preparedness for real patients, improved understanding of pathophysiology, and enhanced safety techniques to improve care in stressful patient situations.

The nursing process considers the patient's emotional and physical well-being. The process can be repeated or stopped at any point if judged essential. Assessment is the first step in the nursing process.
Nursing Implementation
The five steps to implementing effective nursing care include reassessing the patient, reviewing and revising the existing nursing care plan, organizing the resources and care delivery, anticipating and preventing complications, and implementing nursing interventions.
