[Surgical treatment of perplexing renal cell carcinoma]

Abstract
Objective:
To summarize the experience of surgical treatment of perplexing renal cell carcinoma in order to increase survival rate.
Methods:
From 1987 through 1996, 20 patients with perplexing renal cell carcinoma were surgically treated. There were 3 patients in stage I, 9 in stage II, and 8 in stage III. The operative proceduce was described and the follow-up results were analysed.
Results:
Among 20 patients, 18 were evaluable. The 1-, 3-, 5-year survival rate was 100%, 91.7% and 75% for stage I-II; 87.5%, 62.5% and 37.5% for stage III, respectively.
Conclusion:
Radical nephrectomy is still effective for the patients with perplexing renal cell carcinoma.
