Summary

Laparoscopic adrenalectomy for adrenal pheochromocytoma offers good results with no deaths in this study. This minimally invasive approach is feasible for selected patients, demonstrating its effectiveness in treating this rare tumor.

Background:

Pheochromocytoma is a rare tumor of the adrenal medulla.
Surgical management is the primary treatment for pheochromocytoma.
Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is increasingly utilized for adrenal tumors.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the outcomes of laparoscopic adrenalectomy for pheochromocytoma.
To assess the feasibility and safety of the laparoscopic technique in treating adrenal pheochromocytoma.

Main Methods:

Retrospective analysis of 10 patients undergoing transperitoneal laparoscopic adrenalectomy.
Patients evaluated based on clinical, laboratory, and pathological data.
Inclusion criteria: unilateral adrenal pheochromocytoma.

No mortality in the series.
Two conversions (20%) to open surgery due to bleeding and anatomical challenges.
Mean operative time of 136 minutes for non-converted cases.
Low complication rate (10%) in converted cases; no complications in non-converted cases.
Mean hospital stay of 3 days.

Conclusions:

Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is a feasible and effective treatment for selected patients with pheochromocytoma.
The technique provides good surgical outcomes with acceptable complication rates.
