Thyroid lymphoma is a rare cancer. A young woman diagnosed with thyroid cancer was found to have Hodgkin lymphoma, treated successfully with chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Endocrinology

Background:

  • Thyroid lymphoma is a rare malignancy, accounting for less than 1% of all thyroid cancers.
  • Diagnosis can be challenging, often necessitating thorough pathological examination.

Observation:

  • A 25-year-old woman presented with diffuse euthyroid goiter and a diagnosis of thyroid cancer.
  • Subtotal thyroidectomy was performed, with pathological analysis revealing nodular sclerosis subtype of Hodgkin lymphoma.

Findings:

  • The patient received three cycles of chemotherapy (cyclophosphamide, vincristine, procarbazine, prednisone, doxorubicin, bleomycin, vinblastine) and radiotherapy.
  • Despite discontinuing treatment after three cycles, the patient remained disease-free for over 3 years and 5 months.

Implications:

Related Experiment Videos

  • This case highlights the importance of accurate pathological diagnosis in thyroid malignancies.
  • Successful management of thyroid Hodgkin lymphoma is possible even with abbreviated treatment regimens.
  • Further research into optimal treatment strategies for rare thyroid cancers is warranted.
