Summary

Cholinergic cell development in rat retinas was studied using choline acetyltransferase (ChAT) immunocytochemistry. ChAT-immunoreactive cells and processes emerge early, with numbers peaking around postnatal day 15 before declining in adults, suggesting neurotrophic roles.
