Age, functional status, and racial differences in plasma D-dimer levels in community-dwelling elderly persons

Elderly Black individuals and those with functional impairments exhibit higher D-dimer levels, a marker of blood clot formation. These findings, particularly the racial disparity, may explain increased thrombotic event risks in these populations.
