Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Oncology

Background:

  • Eccrine spiradenoma is a benign adnexal neoplasm originating from the sweat glands.
  • Linear or zosteriform patterns are uncommon presentations of eccrine spiradenoma, with limited case reports in medical literature.

Observation:

  • A 9-year-old boy presented with asymptomatic, firm, non-tender papulonodular skin lesions on the left chin and lip.
  • Lesions had been present for 3 years and were fixed to the skin.
  • Histopathologic examination confirmed the diagnosis of eccrine spiradenoma.

Findings:

  • The patient's presentation of multiple papulonodular lesions in a linear/zosteriform pattern on the face is a rare occurrence.
  • The literature search identified only 10 previous cases of linear/zosteriform eccrine spiradenoma, with five in pediatric patients.

Related Experiment Videos

Implications:

  • This case expands the understanding of the clinical spectrum of eccrine spiradenoma, particularly in pediatric populations.
  • Dermatologists should consider eccrine spiradenoma in the differential diagnosis of unusual linear or zosteriform skin lesions in children.
  • Further research into the etiology and management of rare eccrine spiradenoma presentations is warranted.
