Background:

  • Linear atrophoderma of Moulin (LAM) is a rare genodermatosis.
  • It is characterized by band-like atrophic and hyperpigmented skin lesions.
  • LAM follows Blaschko's lines, suggesting a mosaic pattern of genetic expression.

Observation:

  • A 17-year-old female presented with asymptomatic, hyperpigmented, atrophic bands on her trunk and buttock.
  • Lesions followed Blaschko's lines, with normal skin texture and no signs of inflammation.
  • Histopathology revealed epidermal hyperpigmentation, basal cell vacuolar degeneration, and dermal perivascular lymphocytes.

Findings:

  • The case presented is typical of linear atrophoderma of Moulin.
  • Standard laboratory tests, antinuclear antibodies, and anti-Scl70 antibodies were negative.
  • Intravenous penicillin G, a treatment sometimes used for related conditions, showed no effect in this patient.

Implications:

  • Linear atrophoderma of Moulin follows a chronic course with significant cosmetic impact.
  • The condition can cause emotional distress due to its appearance.
  • This case highlights the lack of effective treatment options and the need for further research into LAM pathogenesis and management.
