Background:

  • Laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is a common procedure for correcting myopia.
  • Advancements in excimer laser technology aim to improve safety and efficacy.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the safety and efficacy of a new 6.5 mm large-zone photoablation technology.
  • Utilizing the VISX S2 Smoothscan excimer laser for myopia and myopic astigmatism correction.

Main Methods:

  • Prospective study involving 42 eyes of 21 patients with myopia.
  • LASIK procedure performed using a 6.5 mm optical zone with the VISX S2 Smoothscan.
  • Patients followed for 1 day, 1 month, and 3 months postoperatively.

  • Significant reduction in mean spherical equivalent (SE) by 94% at 3 months.
