Summary

Nuclear receptors Constitutive Androstane Receptor (CAR) and Pregnane X Receptor (PXR) regulate detoxification genes. A conserved enhancer module (XREM) upstream of CYP3A7 and CYP3A4 promoters suggests coevolution for protecting embryos from toxins.
