Area of Science:

  • Oncology
  • Biochemistry
  • Molecular Biology

Background:

  • Apolipoprotein D (apo D) is involved in lipid transport and linked to better outcomes in breast and ovarian cancers.
  • Its role in endometrial cancer prognosis remains unclear.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate tumoral apolipoprotein D expression in endometrial cancer.
  • To correlate apo D expression with clinicopathological features, androgen receptor status, and patient prognosis.

Main Methods:

  • Immunohistochemical analysis of apolipoprotein D in 58 endometrial carcinoma samples.
  • Evaluation of expression in tumor cells using paraffin-embedded tissue blocks.

Main Results:

  • Apolipoprotein D expression was detected in 34% of endometrial tumors.

Related Experiment Videos

  • No significant association was found between apo D expression and tumor characteristics, patient demographics, or androgen receptor status.
  • Apolipoprotein D expression did not correlate with patient survival or prognosis.
  • Conclusions:

    • Apolipoprotein D is expressed in a notable percentage of endometrial carcinomas.
    • Its expression in endometrial cancer is not linked to clinicopathological parameters or patient outcomes.
    • Further research may be needed to elucidate the precise role of apo D in endometrial cancer.
