Summary

Neonatal platelets from mothers with preeclampsia show increased activation, even with weak stimuli. This heightened susceptibility suggests potential complications in newborns born to preeclamptic mothers.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare platelet activation in newborns of preeclamptic mothers versus healthy mothers.
  • To evaluate basal and agonist-induced platelet activation in neonates.

Main Methods:

  • Whole blood flow cytometry was used to analyze platelet activation markers (CD 41, CD62P, CD63, platelet-bound fibrinogen).
  • Samples were collected from 20 newborns (10 preeclampsia/HELLP, 10 controls) during cesarean section.
  • Platelet activation was assessed basally and after in vitro incubation with adenosine diphosphate.
